Deduct the Cost of Your Work Clothes and Uniforms from Your Income Taxes

The cost of your work clothes and uniforms may be deducted from your annual income tax bill. Not being a tax expert or an accountant I cannot say for sure that you can take this deduction. It is always best to check with your tax preparer concerning your state tax laws and rules. However, there are certain things you can do to assure the tax deductions if applicable in your state.

First and foremost you must obtain and retain all receipts for your work clothes and uniforms. Your receipt should state the description of the product, the company name who sold you the uniforms, the date of sale and the amount paid for the work clothes. Keep these sales receipts in a safe place for future proof of the purchase. You will not be asked to produce this receipt unless the state or the Internal Revenue Service performs an audit.

Be cautious about where you buy your work clothes and uniforms. All retail stores will supply a receipt at time of purchase.  Be careful when buying at an online web site.  Most web site companies will automatically email you a receipt upon purchase. However sometimes the electronic communication breaks down and the receipt is not transmitted or you entered the incorrect email address at checkout. For these reasons you should never buy from a web site that does not provide a phone number which is easily to find on the web site. This way you can call and request your receipt.

If you happen to change jobs and you no longer require the work clothes or uniforms you deducted it is a good practice to attach a copy of your pay stub to your uniform receipt. This will prove to the tax man that you were employed in a place that the said deducted work clothes were required. This will justify the deduction at that particular time.

Here are a few words of caution concerning your tax deductions for your work clothes and uniforms. Do not try to deduct if your employer provide you with a uniform budget included in your paycheck or you obtain reimbursement from your employer for work clothes or uniforms. Also, don’t try to deduct your work clothes or uniforms if your employer does not require you to wear them at your place of work. Either of these is considered tax fraud and is illegal.

The tax code is very complicated and varies from state to state. Always check with your tax preparer or accountant before deducting your work clothes or uniforms from your income taxes.

Making the Most of Your Work Clothes

Time is often short in the mornings and the last thing you want is to spend too much time deciding what to wear.  You may find yourself opting for the same suit or skirt and jacket combination every day or dithering over items of clothes, deciding whether or not they are suitable for work.  The formal dress code will vary depending on your line of work but once you have established a basic “work wardrobe”,  mornings will be stress free and you will confident that you always look appropriately dressed and well groomed.

The Basics

You will need four suits or skirt/jacket, trouser/jacket combinations.  For these items choose neutral colours that really flatter your colouring.  Black is a “safe” option but doesn’t suit everybody, so try to find an alternative; navy, brown or pewter.

Tops

You will need six to eight different tops.  Buy a variety of colours and styles.  If you choose only white blouses you will look as though you wear a uniform.  Buttoned shirts or blouses sometimes gape on large busted women so jersey tops are a better option.  If you have chosen colours that suit you, they will all coordinate with the suits, jackets, trousers and skirts you have in your best neutral colours.  Avoid revealing tops; cleavage is not appropriate in formal or business settings.

Dresses

You could wear a smart dress instead of a skirt and top and team it with a jacket.

Coat

You will need a smart overcoat and/or raincoat that will fit over your suit.  This should be in one of your neutrals so it tones with everything you wear.  Again black is not always the most flattering colour.

Shoes

You will need two or three pairs of heeled shoes that match your suits and are not too high. These need to be kept clean and polished and should be replaced as soon as they start to look worn.  Remember to have matching hosiery and never wear a suit with bare legs, even in the summer.

Bags

It is optimal to have two good quality handbags in neutral colours that coordinate with your clothes.  If you need to carry lots of documents and a laptop, a small wheeled suitcase will look smarter and be better for your back and shoulders.

Finishing Touches

Wear some make-up.  It completes the look and is expected in business.  Ensure that your jewellery is discreet and coordinating; hair must be tidy and well cut.  Hands clean and nails cared for but not too long.

Consider the time you have spent organising your wardrobe as time well spent.  It may take a while to establish and  some purchaes may be needed but once this has been achieved you will reap the benefits day after day.

All About Work Clothes

When you own or manage a business that requires employees to work out in the field, it\’s important that your workers convey a professional appearance at all times. After all, their appearance is a reflection of your company. Similarly, if you have a manufacturing plant or operate a warehouse, the clothing your employees wear can impact safety, which is always a primary concern.

Styles of Work Clothes

For reasons of professionalism, safety, and conformity, industrial work clothes are (or should be) a requirement in any number of industries. One of the leaders in industrial work clothes is CornerStone, which offers the following types of apparel:

Work Jackets: Work jackets are made from cotton duck cloth fabric with a polyfill lining that withstands harsh conditions. Hooded work jackets feature a zipper front, drawstrings at the hood, rib knitting at the hem and cuffs, and muff pockets. Classic work jackets feature reinforced stitching at the shoulders and armholes, a zipper front, a corduroy collar, slash pockets, and hems and cuffs that each have two snaps for a more tailored fit.

Work Shirts: Industrial work shirts are available in both long-sleeve and short-sleeve styles, and can typically withstand up to 50 washings by an industrial launderer. The fabrication of work shirts is a poly/cotton blend with a special treatment for easy cleaning of soiled fabric. These work shirts feature an open collar with stays, a metal collar gripper, melamine buttons, and two chest pockets. CornerStone work shirts come in a variety of colors, including white, light blue, navy blue, gray blue, petrol blue, light tan, light green, and light gray.

Work Pants: There are two basic styles of work pants. Both industrial pants and insert work pants have a poly/cotton twill fabrication, front and back pockets, and a zipper and button closure. Regular industrial pants have a solid fabric waistband, while insert work pants feature elastic inserts in the waistband for a better fit and added comfort.

Work Shorts: For warm weather and work conditions that aren\’t climate controlled, work shorts combine comfort and professionalism. Like industrial long pants, work shorts are made from a poly/cotton twill and feature front and back pockets with a banded waist and zipper/button closure.

Branding Work Clothes

While high quality work clothes go far in ensuring safety and establishing the professional image of your company, they can also serve to enhance your \”brand awareness.\” By utilizing custom embroidery, your company\’s work clothes can actually become a marketing tool.

Embroidery is a very cost effective form of marketing, especially if your employees are out in the field. The name of your company or your company logo can be embroidered on work shirts, as can the names of your employees. Businesses that sell work clothes frequently offer custom wholesale embroidery, and sew patches onto work clothes. There are a variety of factors that affect cost, such as the number of pieces that will be embroidered, the height of the letters, the number of stitches per piece, and whether or not special threads are utilized.

Just as CornerStone is a leading manufacturer of work clothes, work clothes should be a cornerstone of your business.

Work Clothes / Clothing For Work

Finding clothes to wear for work is always a dull process. It just is not fun shopping for clothes that remind you of your job when you are not working. There are of course several ways to combat this feeling of despair as you look through rows of black jackets and skirts. That is to abandon the need for the dullness of a suit and expand your thinking to make your wardrobe one that can work from work to play without it feeling bad. That way shopping for work clothes becomes a fun thing – you are not just shopping for something which will only be seen by your work colleagues, you are now shopping for something that can be used in other social situations too.

OK this can be difficult if you have to wear a uniform to work – but then you never have the problem of shopping for work clothes anyway! I used to work at Selfridges before it became all trendy and I had to wear a uniform of a dreadful brown skirt and cream blouse. I hated it so much I used to make it my sole purpose in life to change it as much as I could without getting fired. I wore brightly coloured tights, swapped the blouse for one with embroidery on it, and even took up the hem of the skirt. Surprisingly no one ever said anything but obviously I am not advocating that to anyone.

Anyway back to work clothes. Let’s start with suits. Is a suit essential? I would say not for a woman. I think you can wear smart skirts and jackets and look better than you would if you were wearing a suit. There are lots of smart trousers in the shops and there are a range of skirts that look great on anyone regardless of size and shape. Longer line jackets and tops are back in fashion now too so there is no need to feel self conscious about bits of you being too much on show either. IN fact a pair of line trousers with a tunic or fitted blouse in my eyes looks far more professional and sophisticated than a polyester suit.

The only rule of thumb I would use when buying work clothes is not to wear sleeveless tops or vests to work. That look does tend to say ‘beach’ rather than ‘work’ and unless you have a great body they are not that forgiving!

Work Clothes: What’s Appropriate and What’s Not

It’s never easy to choose the right outfit for work, even worse if you’re too self conscious about how you look. The corporate world has diversified to such an extent that it can be tricky to choose the appropriate shirt or blouse from the wardrobe. So it then becomes crucial to give information that will help those of society who have just gotten new jobs that they can’t afford to lose. Below is a guide on which work clothes that are available at www.SmocksAndUniforms.com are appropriate.

Appropriateness is the key word and it’s pretty loud and clear. Going to work dressed up in a tight skirt or in a blouse that exposes your breasts will pass the wrong hints to the boss who has his eyes set on a bit of office fire. Since employees are still human they can get distracted by such clothing and lose their focus. Try wearing knee high skirts and decent, buttoned up blouses if you’re a woman. It also isn’t appropriate to wear clothing that reveals underwear.

People make judgments of people during the first few seconds of meeting each other. The first impression rule basically means that your image communicates a lot to the next person. That’s why work clothes have to be presentable. Presentability means ones clothes mustn’t be un-ironed; dirty; torn and not possess sexually explicit images or words. Such clothes can give a negative first impression that will determine how people generally treat you at work.

Wear comfortable clothes and you will feel relaxed and freed from a nagging self conscious state of mind. It doesn’t help wearing something you like but rarely feel comfortable in. Going through the wardrobe a selecting flat shoes and long dresses will save you the expense of being uncomfortable enough to bend down.

Appropriate clothes for work are: buttoned up blouses; golf shirts; turtlenecks; decent sweaters and sneakers; flat shoes; boots and simple high heels. If you’re desire is to be inappropriate then you can experiment with midriff tops; tight and short skirts; slippers; morning shoes and clothes with offensive pictures and statements.

And if you were wondering about hats and jewelry the answer is just as well simple. Flat base caps and summer hats don’t have a place in the working environment. Instead wear a decent woolen hat if it’s clearly cold or religious head gears that can’t be left at home.

But when all is said and done the best thing is to have a chat with your boss and ask him about the clothing policy at work. Chances are he will guide you through instead of firing you because you were negligent enough not to ask.

Appropriate work clothes and uniforms can be found at www.SmocksAndUniforms.com. There you can find high quality work clothes for all you needs.

Golf Clothing

There’s assorted ways that a golf player can accessorize through purchasing different products that will increase the quality of the golf games, including carriers, caddies, or even novelty things. Not many people think about the clothes which can be worn by players in order to obtain advantages (both related to health as well as the game). Here are a few of the more popular clothing items worn by players, and a few reasons why they are loved.

The initial objective of golf clothing accessories must be to safeguard you from the dangers of being outside and the most dangerous element is the sun, although there are several ways you could fight it. The foremost and most effective method to keep your game going in the face of major ultraviolet rays is to wear a pair of sunglasses as you play the game. If the sun gets in your eyes, it can have a devastating effect on your perception, and might not permit you to strike the golf ball to your full potential though more importantly, sunglasses also defend your retinas from harmful UV Rays. Still your eyes are not the sole section of the body which requires protection from UV rays so whenever you head to the course for the day, you must cover the face as well as the arms up in sunscreen fairly well to avoid getting sunburned. It is normally a decent thought to additionaly put on some sort of cap for more facial protection.

Golf shoes are used by numerous avid golfers and while they’re definitely not required to play the game, they offer a few benefits. They’re designed to render it simple to cross the grass which the golf course is composed of though leaving it’s grass in as great of condition as possible. Walking on the green wearing normal footwear may be rather destructing, though golfing footwear makes it so that the grass could easily endure the constant use. Golf shoes are just about as expensive as typical shoes, though do not have that much use while outside the course therefore if you’re preparing to be on the course about once every week, golfing shoes might be a good thought, otherwise you will be fine just using regular shoes for now.

The rest of a golfer’s outfit is basically up to the golfer himself, however, it is a good idea to have comfy pants which you’ll feel right walking for a couple of hours in. If you wear an outfit that is too fancy, you’ll just end up getting a rash on your thigh so just look at what all the other players are wearing, and attempt to copy it. It’s best to follow the trend, because the odds are that they understand precisely what it is they are doing and they know what the more comfortable kind of clothes are. It may require a trip to a shop to finish the wardrobe, however the comfort level would definitely be worth the time you invested in it.

So long as there’s no dress code in the course that you are in, you shouldn’t worry excessively over what you’re wearing because golf is supposed to be a relaxed and enjoyable activity, therefore any sort of requirement upon clothing should not be taken too much into consideration. Merely use what you are comfortable in, and wear what features an advantage (like defending you from the sun or preserving the grass that you tread upon). Naturally, different rules are enacted for tournaments or outings with business partners. Use your own discretion to decide what you’ll wear, just like you would for any mundane work day or with any other sporting pursuit.
